"Choose to Manage” is a management skills development program designed specifically for faculty and staff who are currently managers, and those aspiring to be managers.  Faculty and staff can enroll to attend courses covering a variety of important skills.  Courses cover topics such as communication skills, hiring best practices, conflict management, performance management, critical thinking, process improvement, finance & budgeting, and more.

Conflict and Difficult Conversations

Participants assess their own DiSC conflict style(s) when managing and resolving conflicts with their staff or other work relationships.  The participants practive different strategies to deal with difficult situations to achieve better outcomes.

 

IMPORTANT INFO:  It is highly recommended that you have completed the “Communication Strategies:  Discovering DiSC” course prior to taking this one.  We will be referencing your DiSC style as identified as part of that course. 

Objectives

  • Define conflict
  • Identify how you react to conflict utilizing the DiSC profile
  • Review the elements of every difficult conversation
  • Prepare for a difficult conversation

 

Participant Expectations

  • Ability to identify their DiSC communication style and its impact on others
  • Ability to “flex” their DiSC style in difficult situations
  • Identify the concerns of others in times of conflict and in difficult conversations
  • Utilize strategies to have difficult conversations with a positive outcome

NOTE:  This training course is available to faculty and staff only. 

Each session covers the full agenda.  Therefore, attendees need only attend one session to participate in the program.
