LaQuana Askew, Assistant Professor in Sociology & Criminal Justice, will present her study, Examining Access, Outcomes, and the Lived Experiences of Black Women: Improving Racial Equity in Adult Drug Treatment Court. Using a Black feminist, intersectional lens, this research explores how court policies, bias, and gaps in culturally competent care create barriers for Black women in drug treatment courts. Drawing on interviews and focus groups, the study offers concrete, actionable recommendations to make drug treatment courts more equitable, gender-responsive, and effective.
